TBR and Beyond Blog Tour: 5 Reasons to Read Like a Love Song by Gabriela Martins

Like a Love Song, Gabriela Martins
Genre: Young Adult Fiction, Contemporary, Romance
Length: 304 pages
Contains: language, mentions of panic attacks, pop culture references, LGBT characters
Summary:
This debut paperback original romance follows a Latina teen pop star whose image takes a dive after a messy public breakup, until she’s set up with a swoon-worthy fake boyfriend.

Fake boyfriend. Real heartbreak?

Natalie is living her dream: topping the charts and setting records as a Brazilian pop star…until she’s dumped spectacularly on live television. Not only is it humiliating—it could end her career.

Her PR team’s desperate plan? A gorgeous yet oh-so-fake boyfriend. Nati reluctantly agrees, but William is not what she expected. She was hoping for a fierce bad boy—not a soft-hearted British indie film star. While she fights her way back to the top with a sweet and surprisingly swoon-worthy boy on her arm, she starts to fall for William—and realizes that maybe she’s the biggest fake of them all. Can she reclaim her voice and her heart?

Today’s post is part of the book tour with TBR and Beyond Tour’s. Like a Love Song is one of those debut novels that has been ALL OVER my news feed, and I was so excited when I got my hands on an eARC. The book was released on August 3rd, so you can get your own copy today! Today is the last day of the tour, but you can find a list of the other stops on TBR and Beyond Tours’ website.

And without further ado, I give you 5 Reasons to Read Like a Love Song:

1. That Cover Art: an embarrassing amount of books on my shelf end up there because of what they looked like, and Like a Love Song first ended up on my radar because of its cover. Between that eye-catching poofy, pale purple dress and the title which feels like a little throwback to the early 2010s, I was intrigued enough to pick up the book.

2. Fake Dating: I know it’s unrealistic, but I kind of love the fake relationship trope (I blame Asian dramas.) So when I saw a book featuring a teen pop star fake dating, it went straight to my TBR. Speaking of the protagonist…

3. Famous MC/Love Interest: or in the words of Gabriela Martins, “pop star shenanigans.” Stories about actors/singers/otherwise famous characters are a kind of guilty pleasure for me. Don’t ask me why. (Bonus: Nati, our main character, is a Brazilian American pop star, and her experience as a second culture celebrity adds an interesting dimension to the story.)

4. Cinnamon Roll Love Interest: William Ainsley: Londoner. Actor. Sock enthusiast. Who wouldn’t want to read about a sweet British boyfriend with Tom Holland vibes? He also unironically loves Shakespeare retellings (it’s canon,) so I can’t help but like him.

5. Gabriela Martins: Gabriela is kind of amazing. I was randomly internet stalking her and discovered she’s  super multilingual and proficient in Mandarin, has great taste in anime and is an MCU fan. She also deserves major props for writing the entire story while she was “deeply depressed” like how?!

    • You definitely need to go into them with some suspended disbelief because, well, fake dating, but I hope you enjoy this one 🙂
